Lake Charles Mayor Randy Roach announced recently that he will seek re-election in the April 4, 2009 city elections. Roach, a Lake Charles native, has served as Mayor since 2000.

Active in civic and community affairs, Roach has spent the majority of the last 20 years serving the public at both local and state levels. Prior to being elected Mayor in a special election held to fill the vacancy left by former Mayor Willie Mount, he served as State Representative for District 36 from 1988 to 1996.

In announcing his candidacy, Mayor Roach said, “While the past four years have been challenging as a result of two major hurricanes and the subsequent recovery efforts, it has been an honor and privilege to serve as your Mayor and to work together with the people of this unique corner of the state. We have shown the citizens of Louisiana and this great country just how resilient and compassionate a community like we are even when faced with tremendous adversity.”

Roach continued, “I am taking this opportunity to ask the voters of Lake Charles to allow me to continue to work with them to rebuild and reshape our community. Today’s economic crisis will present new challenges but we have already proven we have the creative ability to convert adversity into opportunity. I look forward to continue serving as your Mayor and would appreciate your vote and support.”

The general public is invited to attend the official announcement of Mayor Roach’s candidacy in the Mezzanine on the second floor of the Lake Charles Civic Center at noon, Friday, February 27.

Roach is married to Nancy Seger Roach. The couple has two children, Brandon and Lauren, and three grandchildren, Jeremiah, Jude and Marie. He graduated from LSU with a degree in accounting and received his juris doctorate from LSU Law.
